More about Mitzi Brown

               

 

Mitzi's legal experience has included commercial and white-collar crime litigation at two major national law firms, as well as local and community legal assistance in a variety of areas including business litigation, criminal law, estate law, for-profit and not-for-profit corporate assistance, and pro-bono corporation assistance.

Since 2011, Mitzi has been a litigation consultant for national and local law firms in Pennsylvania and Virginia.  She has a history of providing pro-bono legal services to non-profits and indigent individuals, and has founded and operated both a non-profit organization and a successful, award-winning event design business.

Until moving to Fredericksburg, Mitzi considered Fredericksburg her second home as her family has lived here for decades. She has continued her community involvement and legal consulting since moving to Fredericksburg in 2012.

Key Accomplishments

  • Named as one of Philadelphia area’s “Top Women to Watch” in September 2011.
  • Managed all aspects of litigation in numerous complex criminal and commercial litigations, including class action cases, concerning issues of patent litigation, complex commercial loans, wrongful death, Medicare fraud, criminal harassment, labor and employment, and many other types of litigation.
  •  In connection with owning and operating a small business, conducted client contract negotiations, negotiated and drafted employment agreements, handled intellectual property issues, Philadelphia zoning compliance issues, sales and employment tax issues, and unemployment compensation issues.
  • Co-authored amicus curiae briefs for the United States Supreme Court on child protection legislation.
  • Co-taught “Women and the Law” at George Mason University.
  • Performed public relations activities, including radio and television interviews, guest lectures at universities, and preparing public outreach documents.
  • Collaborated with United States senators and representatives and their staff on proposed legislation regarding the protection of children against sexual exploitation.
  • Assisted in drafting of municipal, state and federal legislation regarding the protection of children.

Volunteering and Community Service

  • Currently serving on the Economic Development Authority Board for the City of Fredericksburg
  • Co-founded and led Hannah’s House, a nonprofit organization in Fairfax, Virginia, with a dozen employees and several dozen volunteers that provided housing, education, life skills classes and access to medical, legal and other professional services to single mothers.
  • Organized the Race for First Responders
  • Organized, coordinated and hosted the Annual American Heart Association Red Dress Fashion Show and Luncheon
  • Organized fundraisers for the Ronald McDonald House
